This is our story

Our beginnings (1944-1982)

Taking off (2002-2017)

The new Rehatrans (2018-2026)

Antonio Soriano, our founder

Antonio Soriano, the founder of Rehatrans, was born in Bujalance, Córdoba, in 1944.

At the age of 20, he moved to Barcelona, where he began working as a vehicle mechanic in several workshops. He later moved to Madrid to be closer to his family and continued building his experience in workshops across the capital.

In the early 1980s, he decided to strike out on his own and opened Talleres Antonio, his own mechanical workshop in central Getafe.

Remolcauto

Antonio was always an entrepreneur at heart. After establishing Talleres Antonio as one of Getafe’s leading mechanical workshops, he decided to take the next step and launch a new business venture.

In 1986, he founded Remolcauto, a company specialising in trailer manufacturing and truck bodywork.

From 1986 to 1991, the company operated from the Cobo Calleja industrial estate in Fuenlabrada.

In 1992, Antonio was able to return to his adopted hometown of Getafe, moving the company to its current location at kilometre 14 of the A-42. He spent that year getting the new facilities up and running in a highly visible location with far more space to continue growing the business.

Tiberauto

The new site covered 20,000 m², including 5,000 m² of indoor space, opening up new opportunities for growth.

Antonio decided to complement Remolcauto’s activity with a new project and move into vehicle distribution.

That was how Tiberauto was born, becoming an authorised dealer for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge.

It was a busy period, driven by the sale of some of the era’s most popular models, including the Chrysler Voyager and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The beginnings of Rehatrans

Some of Antonio’s family from Córdoba had moved to the outskirts of Paris, and it was there that he first came across vehicles adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Seeing someone enter an adapted taxi in their own wheelchair and travel safely made a lasting impression on Antonio. That moment planted the seed for what would later become Rehatrans.

The 1993-1994 economic crisis hit Spain hard, particularly the transport sector, where much of Remolcauto’s business was concentrated. Determined to protect jobs and explore new opportunities, Antonio founded Rehatrans – Rehabilitación y Transporte – in 1996.

Antonio then presented Fundación ONCE with his idea for adapting a van, based on the model he had seen in Paris. At the time, the Foundation was coordinating and developing what would later become widely known as EUROTAXI: an adapted public-service vehicle for people with reduced mobility.

This was how Antonio and his team began developing their first vehicle conversions: lowered floors, ramp installations, raised roofs and safety systems, all designed to allow a person to travel safely in their own wheelchair alongside the other passengers.

The second generation: Olga and Óscar join the family business

In 2002, Antonio’s children, Olga and Óscar, joined their father at Rehatrans.

Olga joined the company at 24 after completing her university studies. Óscar joined at 32, following several years working in Belgium and England.

They brought fresh ideas and a new way of looking at the business, with a clear ambition to open Rehatrans up to new markets.

Olga and Óscar also began building a new team of professionals, many of whom are still part of Rehatrans today.

Pilar, Miguel, Gerardo, Luis Miguel, Javi Revilla, Vanesa, Carlos Alvites and Ricardo, among others.

From that point on, Rehatrans began exploring new markets, building international relationships and broadening the horizons of a project that was still only six years old.

Tibermotor Sur

In 2006, the Soriano family decided to launch a new company and open a dealership representing the prestigious Swedish brand Volvo in southern Madrid.

Tibermotor Sur was born – a project that strengthened the family’s ties to the automotive industry and brought new knowledge, experience and ways of working through close contact with one of Europe’s major manufacturers.

Meanwhile, Rehatrans continued to grow and specialise as demand for accessible mobility solutions steadily increased.

Rehatrans goes international

Rehatrans entered a new phase of international expansion, exploring new markets, building relationships with companies abroad and broadening its horizons.

During those years, we exhibited at REHACARE in Düsseldorf, Germany, one of the world’s leading international trade fairs for mobility and accessibility.

In 2010, a regulatory change affecting the homologation of vehicle conversions meant we had to stop manufacturing our own kits and look for solutions from European manufacturers with the testing and certification capabilities required across the continent. This led to new agreements and partnerships with companies in the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.

One of the major milestones of this period was the production and delivery of a fleet of 30 Mercedes Viano vehicles in Abu Dhabi, featuring a conversion developed in-house that included raising the van roof by 20 centimetres.

The delivery took us to the United Arab Emirates, where we worked with TransAD, the organisation that regulated taxi services in Abu Dhabi at the time and which is now part of Abu Dhabi Mobility.

It was an experience that marked a turning point in our international expansion.

Meeting our partner: AMF-Bruns

In 2018, at a European Mobility Group (EMG) convention – the European association for vehicle conversion specialists working with vehicles for people with reduced mobility – we met Gerit Bruns and Tom Krueger, CEO and Export Manager of AMF-Bruns.

AMF-Bruns is one of Europe’s leading companies in vehicle adaptation solutions for people with reduced mobility. We began working together after that first meeting, and there was a strong connection between our two companies from the very start.

AMF-Bruns develops and certifies many of the products we install and distribute in Spain, offering a broad portfolio of solutions. We also share the same vision of accessible mobility and a similar understanding of the sector.

Working with AMF-Bruns became a genuine turning point in Rehatrans’ development and growth.

Rehatrans gathers momentum

Like so many companies, we faced particularly difficult years during the 2020 pandemic and then the semiconductor shortage that hit the automotive industry hard in 2021.

In 2022, we made an important decision: to transfer ownership of the Volvo dealership and focus exclusively on Rehatrans.

We wanted to devote our resources, attention and growth capacity to a single project so that we could respond better to the needs of both our customers and our people.

It was a decision that marked the beginning of a new chapter for the company.

From workshop to factory: the new Rehatrans

On 1 January 2025, after almost 30 years of history, Rehatrans opened a new chapter with facilities offering five times more space than before.

From there, the company accelerated its growth at a pace that would have been hard to imagine only a few years earlier.

In just three years, we doubled our turnover, significantly increased the number of adapted vehicles we produced, and opened the door to new projects and opportunities for growth. At the same time, we deepened our relationships with manufacturers and dealerships, who saw first-hand the major industrial and commercial transformation taking place at Rehatrans.

That growth was also reflected in our team: in just one year, we grew from 30 to 45 employees.

The introduction of specialised production lines has represented a genuine step change. Rehatrans has evolved from a traditional workshop model into a modern factory for adapting vehicles for people with reduced mobility.

It was a huge challenge, made possible by the effort and commitment of the entire team. Full marks to every person who has been part of this new chapter.

Greater production capacity, better processes and new opportunities to keep growing alongside our customers – without losing the essence of who we are.

**Thirty years on, we are still paving the way. And the best is yet to come.**
